End of Year One

June 12, 2008 on 8:58 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Well, that’s all folks. I will redesign this site over summer and make it a bit more logical, and bring it back in new form for next year. I hope you found it useful. If not, next years freshers might well!

Have a great summer all, and a round of applause to us all. We’ve finished the first year, and you’re all 20% of the way to being doctors!

Terrifying =)

Take care.

Any Last Requests?

Is there anything anyone would particularly love for me to put up questions for? Last chances really as we enter the final day of revision, but let me know and I’ll do my best. I added Pathology of Smoking, NO and Endothelins, and Renin-Angiotensin System today along with a few odds and ends.

Otherwise, good luck to you all on Monday (and Tuesday!). We might be feeling crap about it, but at least we’re all in the same boat.

All the best, and when you’re feeling down and out just think that it’s less than 72 hours till we’re all partying and everything is over.

Once again, good luck.

Callan.

Short Notes Questions

June 7, 2008 on 2:15 pm | In Questions | No Comments

Here are a couple of example short notes questions I have made up in the last few minutes: answers will follow but for now the questions are just my ideas as to what I think they will ask. If anyone else has any short-note questions which they think could come up just leave them in a comment and I’ll add them on here. Remember each is worth ten marks in the real world so try and get at least 10 points for each question!

SHORT NOTES QUESTIONS

  1. What are the differences between mitochondrial genetic material and human diploid cell genetic material? (9 marks as I couldn’t think of a tenth point! Derived from non-Mendelain genetics 1))
  2. Describe the formation and growth of an atherosclerotic plaque and the ways in which it can cause vessel occlusion.
  3. Explain the differences between acute and chronic inflammation.
  4. Describe the defense mechanisms of the lung to allergens/parasites and briefly explain the sequence of events when an allergen/parasite is detected.
  5. Describe the metabolic pathways which glucose can undergo in a red blood cell.
  6. Describe the process of oxidative phosphorylation.
  7. Explain how lipids can get from ingested food to cells, and how lipid levels in the blood are controlled both naturally and (briefly) pharmacologically.

A Hurried Introduction

June 6, 2008 on 4:12 pm | In Announcements | No Comments

Here are just a few questions that I’ve been a-writing with a view to revision of the first year of the new medical course at Southampton University. You’re welcome to use them and their answers, but I make no guarantees about the accuracy of the answers as some of them have been written rather late at night/early in the morning and might not make sense!

I’ll keep adding them as I write them. Pharmacology are now up (you can find them under ‘Pharmacology Q&A and ‘Pharmacology Answers’ on the right), and I’ll see how it goes with the others. Colours and all that jazz will doubtless change about as I get bored of them.

Let me know what you think. If this is worth continuing and you find this useful, leave a comment here to tell me. If not, tell me what would be useful!
